Hello! My name is Emily Marie Kane.
I’m an Art Historian turned Graphic & Web Designer. I completed my undergraduate studies at the George Washington University, in Washington DC. In addition to majoring in Art History, I minored in English Lit and took additional courses in both film and digital photography, digital media, and introductory software programming. My undergraduate work experience mainly took place in art galleries and museums, yet I increasingly found myself utilizing my skills in digital media marketing and graphic design.
My background in Art History has served as a great foundation for my design career, giving me with a well honed eye for color and composition, as well as the vocabulary to express my design ideals. As a lifelong artist and doodler, my strengths naturally lie in illustration and typography. Yet, with increasing exposure to web design, my passion has also grown to encompass UX/UI Design. I hope to constantly grow as both a designer and programmer, and am looking forward to where my career will take me.
This site functions as both my personal portfolio and my blog — a place to show my design work and travel photography, as well as a place to discuss the things that inspire me. I love all things design, from graphic and web design to fashion, furniture, and event design. My hobbies include: Eating… a lot, Swimming… a good amount, Hiking & Backpacking… whenever I can, and generally geek-ing out over anything fantasy or sci-fi related. I like to think that my nerdier tendencies are balanced by my love of girly-girl activities, such as baking pretty desserts and getting dressed up for nights out dancing.
E. Marie Kane has been through many incarnations and I’m sure it will continue to evolve as I embark on my career in digital media. I’ll never claim to be an authority on any topic (except maybe tacos), but nonetheless, I hope that through my explorations, adventures, and projects, I can provide you with a source of inspiration.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to work together! -Em
